Ben Carruthers an actor friend of Bob Dylan based 'Jack O' Diamonds' on a Dylan sleeve note poem featured on his 4th album 'Another Side of Bob Dylan'

Prior to the release of the record it was broadcast over the opening credits of a BBC TV play starring Ben Carruthers and credited to Ben Carruthers and The Seeds.  The Seeds changed to The Deep for the single to avoid confusion with Sky Saxon and The Seeds
