Description
BEETHOVEN SYMPHONY No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125 - THE "CHORAL" SYMPHONY
Well chances are if you're looking at this you already know what an exceptional and rare beast this is. Without doubt this is the definitive recording of the Choral Symphony. The pace and dynamic is second to none. The legendary WILLHELM FURTWANGLER whips along the Orchestra & Chorus of the 1951 Bayreuth Festival. Featuring ELISABETH SCHWARZKOPF, ELISABETH HONGEN, HANS HOPF & OTTO EDELMANN. The whole package is simply superb from the stunning sleeve illustrations by WILLIAM BLAKE to the applause, cut all too short, at the end of the tumultuous choral finale. This is one of the rarest ALP recordings. Original first UK HMV/EMI 2lp set release. NO STEREO AVAILABLE.
CAT. NO. ALP 1286-7 on HMV/EMI Records
The sleeves are in VG++ to excellent condition with minor discolouration, some laminate starting to lift at the opening edges and a small seam rub at the bottom of disc 1. The vinyl is in VG+ condition. There are several light marks and paper scuffs plus one small scratch at the start of side four. The four sides play through with no jumps or skips. There are the occasional scattered pop and the surface noise varies throughout but the majority of this could be removed with a professional cleaner. If you want a mint copy this is not for you but it is still a chance to acquire a very rare legendary performance.
