We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original circa 1971 first pressing vinyl in gatefold cover ... a legendary folkpsych UK collectible by compelling group who made at least two highly sought/collectible albums... - (SCARCE) ORIGINAL BLACK INNER SLEEVE INCLUDED
Named after a fictional character in a novel Dando Shaft were formed in Coventry in the english east midlands in 1968. Originally a 5 piece, singer Polly Bolton joined them for this, their second album.
Following in the footsteps of Trees meets Fairport Convention, Dando Shaft mixed folk with a touch of rock albeit without drums. They developed a style of complex textures and intricate patterns with musical dexterity and good compositional ability. This brew gathered great acclaim from the media but they didn`t manage to break into the big time. An Evening With Dando Shaft was an impressive debut and was succesful enough for their record company, Neon, to let them record a second.
Polly Bolton joined the band for the recording of Dando Shaft. The band had always wanted to have a female singer and Bolton`s distinctive voice brought another dimension to their sound. Unfortunately Neon Records folded not long after the albums release and the band signed a one album deal with RCA. After their demise Martin Jenkins formed Hedgehog Pie before working with Bert Jansch and then forming Whippersnapper.
Forsaking electric instruments, Dando Shaft nevertheless radiated the same level of energy as electric British folk bands like Pentangle and Trees. Driven by hand percussion and standup bass, the Coventry-based group created a sound marked by intricate patterns and complex textures. Reminding of early Pentangle in their jazzy double bass fueled grooves, John Martyn when leaning on more bluesy bend string licks while on more dreamy gentle pastures -- Dando Shaft has much of its own and thus a very original and rich sound, build on top of the duo of guitars intertwined patterns, supported by a discreet but effective low end and subtle percussions, tastefully enriched by Jenkins mandolin,or flute mixed fiery playing -- the blend of male and female vocals is great, and a bit different than usual. Perhaps that's just the true uniqueness of the female vocalist at play. Her name is Polly Bolton. She has her own sound.
Besides the melancholic and beautiful Polly sung ”River Boat” and the short closing solo piece by Dave Cooper “Prayer” this is a mostly uplifting, lively album.
