We have a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 2/3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers.
We mail all paid orders out once a week on Fridays/Saturdays. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule to Monday. We strive to keep our shipping and handling costs as close to actual charges as reasonable. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. Please be aware we have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.

Mega Rare & sought after small (private label) first pressing vinyl
Pressed in micro-quantities by Arlington Virginia-based Georgetowne label, 1969's "The Age of Reason" lay largely unkown until it appeared in the collector Pokora book - "1001 Record Collectors Dreams." Like those listed in one of Pokora's books, the album has subsequently become high priced, in-demand, and as a result, near impossible to find release.
The band apparently came together in 1967, featuring the talents of keyboardist Tommy Didly, former The Telstars bassist Terry Gorka, drummer Bill Manning, and lead guitarist Billy Windsor. They somehow attracted the attention of the California-based Ascot Records which signed them, releasing a one shot single:
- 1967's '(Your Love Is Like a) Magnet' b/w 'I'm a Free Man' (Ascot catalog number 2230)
Two years later they were apparently back in the Washington, D.C. area, releasing what may have been a vanity project on the small Arlington, Virginia-based Georgetowne label. Produced by drummer Manning, "The Age of Reason" offered up a mixture of late-1960s jams of the era (Dylan, Savoy Brown Blues Band, Ike Turner Review) and best of all, Age Of Reason originals. The players were all pretty good with keyboardist Didly featured on most of the songs. Highlights include a stormy renditions of 'This Wheels On Fir,' & 'The View From Tom Thompson's Cell' standing as their best performances. Elsewhere the biggest surprise is 'Temptations Bout To Get Me'. The result was a totally unexpected knockout slice of blue-eyed soul. Shame they didn't record more in this vein.
- Dylan tunes are a risky move for bands -- but opening the album in the way that they do, with such a powerful rendition is really special -- their keyboard propelled version of 'This Wheel's On Fire' is quite excellent. Imagine an Afirst LP era Uriah Heep turning it on with power and feeling and you'd get a feel for this one. Quite enjoyable and one of the album highlights. There aren't that many bands out there who'd cover a Savoy Brown song either, so hats off to the Age Of Reason for their choice in covers. 'Don't Try To See Though Me' starts out with a beautiful Didly keyboard segment (the late Danny Gatton providing the accompanying on guitar), then switches into a higher gear and the result is a harmony rich infectious melody. Must admit those keyboards were sweet ...
'The View From Tom Thompson's Cell' is one of the album's rockers. Kicked along by some nice Billy Windsor guitar, the song showcased a great melody and some nice group harmonies -- the band displays nicely a true identity here. As well, 'Letter To Home' gives a varied mix being a competent rural tune with the late Danny Gatton accompanying on pedal steel guitar.
Ever wonder what it would have sounded like had Vanilla Fudge recorded the popular 60's track 'Bang Bang'? The Age Of Reason's take of the song will give you a pretty good approximation of the results. Like it was taken right off of the first Vanilla Fudge album and 'stretched' out ... dynamic & powerful...
No idea who D. Diggs was but he gave the band a great blue-eyed soul vehicle in the form of 'Temptations Bout To Get Me'. Fantastic song, and one of the *best* tracks on the album.

CONDITION: The cover: With its striking cover art -- the thing looks like a museum piece, as rare as it is, the cover was taken care of pretty well, the all important front being in "EX" (excellent) and back cover with cool group shots, VG++ a little shelf wear on the dark boarders...All said, very minor next to nothing handling and being 'around' -- still in great shape. Solid with no split seams, and such -- the vibrant colors are there and...striking.
The vinyl: The cool red private press labels are both clean. The vinyl retains its original gloss on both sides. There are some little hard to see scuffs and such, two hairline soft scuffs noticable. Playgraded out really well...a couple places where there was some light surface, but nothing bad or bothersome. plus the lo-fi private pressings from the sixties add to a suitable primitive nature of the item which collectors of the genre understand, and even like (like us!). Call it visually VG+ to VG++ and mostly plays at excellent.
