THE DUKES
TEARDROP EYES
SHIMMIES & THE SHAKES
Chess 1771
GRADE: VG+
DESCRIPTION: Here's a group that doesn't show up very often in auctions. They were a quintet from Oklahoma, and that's about all I know of their existence. There were several other groups called the Dukes, but they had no relationship with the group that recorded on the Imperial label and, contrary to what some people think, they had no relationship with the Dukes that recorded on Specialty about the same time. This record was the first of two disks issued in 1956 by the Dukes. There were three much later releases of the group's unissued sides, but they had only two legitimate records in their name from 1956. Teardrop Eyes is a terrific ballad with a super tenor lead singer. It's a song you don't even see often on CDs, so its rarity is definitely a fact! My favorite side, however, is the jump song, Shimmies & the Shakes, with a great baritone singing lead. This rocker features the rest of the group doing a killer backup job--the tenor alone is worth the listen with his high-pitched humming. Sorry to disappoint you ballad lovers, but there are times I favor the jump tunes over the ballads. Don't get me wrong--the ballad on this disk is absolutely wonderful, but the rocker really does it for me! Better buy this rarity now!
CONDITION: The disk has a light gradual warp that doesn't affect the play in any way whatsoever. There are a couple of scuffs that cause a tiny bit of barely discernable crackling, but it still plays beautifully! The record looks like a new disk with the A side showing very slight label rubbing just on the I and the A in the IMPERIAL logo (the mark on the scanned photo at the top of the label is a shadow and not a scuff). The record still has all its bright luster, and, as I said earlier, it plays beautifully despite the very slight bit of crackling. Excellent record!

I pack very carefully, but I DO NOT GUARANTEE LOSS OR DAMAGE IF PACKAGE IS UNINSURED AND I WILL NOT REFUND MONEY TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAS LOST OR DAMAGED UNINSURED MERCHANDISE (unless the damage can be proved to be my, the seller's fault). I do not rip off customers by tacking on unnecessary charges to the shipping costs. Shipping I ship to every country in the world. In the U.S.: I ship 45s by USPS 1st class shipping. However, if requested, I will ship 45s via priority mail. I require that 78s be shipped by USPS priority mail; however, there are cases where a buyer prefers some other type of shipping, i.e., media rate, and I will oblige with the one requirement that he/she purchase insurance. Out of the U.S.: All records are shipped via airmail. Delivery I ship within three days of receiving payment--often sooner. I ship twice a week--more frequently depending on the volume of sales for that week. Refunds & Returns Refunds are given if buyer feels my description is misleading. If a record is discovered to be, for instance, a second pressing instead of a first as advertised, I will refund the money. If I have graded a record higher than it actually is, that is reason for a refund. I will not refund payment if the buyer has found another record at a lower price than the one I sold him/her; or if the buyer changes his/her mind for about buying the record for no good reason. Buyer has 7 days after record has been shipped to request a refund. Items should be returned in the packing carton and material they were shipped in.
