Description

This record was purchased directly from John Moreland after a show at the Mercury Lounge in Tulsa, OK. During this time John Moreland was operating strictly as a DIY artist in Oklahoma, occasionally selling early runs of records in generic sleeves to fund tours or studio costs before cover art was completed and cardstock jackets were printed. The 2012 limited release of 300 albums complete with cover art jackets would follow this pressing.


Item Description

Up for sale is an incredibly rare, early piece of Americana history: an original 2012 first pressing of John Moreland & The Dust Bowl Souls' Everything the Hard Way.


This specific copy is housed in a plain brown paper sleeve and features the official OTR-001 L-20880M matrix number etched into the runout groove, verifying it as an authentic 2012 original. This vinyl supersedes the limited 300 album production run. It lacks the final plant stamps (Ⓤ and PCMJR) of the limited release because this record was pressed as part of a preliminary, early-batch run of the very first stampers. These discs were labeled, packed in paper sleeves, and handed straight to the artist before the complete commercial retail elements (cover art and cardboard sleeve) were applied to the production run. It is an earlier promotional copy, advance pressing distributed directly by the artist. This is a true grail piece for any John Moreland completionist or serious indie-country collector.
