PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original first pressing THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH were one of the more stylistically original signings to EMI’s legendary Progressive label Harvest. The band was formed in 1968 and featured brothers Garth and Norman Watt-Roy (who played guitar and bass respectively), along with American vocalist Ozzie Lane, Mick Deacon on Organ, a horn section of Dick Hanson, Tex Philpotts and Ian Aitcheson and drummer Ron Prudence.An impressive live act, Greatest Show on Earth released Their debut album, "Horizons" in February 1970 adorned in a startling Hipgnosis designed sleeve. The album was an excellent work featuring the ambitious eleven minute title track and "Real Cool World" which which released as a single Throughout Europe, gaining some chart success on the Continent.
The Greatest Show on Earth managed to combine progressive rock with rich psychedelia and spiced this dish with a generous share of complex riffs and as a result we have magnificent and very colourful Horizons. “I took the step and I opened my eyes, looked in my head with a look of surprise I knew that what I first saw something was bound to be born. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha I found myself a real cool world. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha so come and join me in my world, safe in the tune of the world's angry songs searching for peace and a place to belong”.
This album has all the charms of early 70´ rock and prog, complete with Hammond, fuzz guitars, razor sharp chords, a backing 'spice' section and the fine vocals of Colin Horton-Jennings whom also plays flute and acoustic guitar. Colin also is the main composer here. Title track "Horizons" are the epic here, clocking in at some 14: 02 minutes, with all the trimmings and variations that period of the UK music scene craved from a long epic tune. "Angelina" is a fine tune with some rather interesting backing sequences. " Day Of The Lady" is very English (meant in the most positive way) in its musical language, opening softly with mandolins and bringing in some spinette like keyboard, nice tune! "Real Cool World" yet another track that reminds me of Audience(though not as dark as Audience) but the vocals has that Howard Werth feel. "I fought For Love" has an intro with rushes of Hammond organ before diving into that very special 70´sounds (complete with electronic tampered psychedelic vocals) and the occasional outburst´s from a winds section.
