ORIGINAL 1972 FIRST PRESS
UNDERGROUND KRAUTROCK RARITY
Kin Ping Meh
No. 2
\ GERMAN - ZEBRA - 2949005
Pretty rare one from a line of collected Kraut-psych albums, here the seldom seen 2nd KIN PING MEH -- a hardrock/progressive offering that features talented guitar work mixed among the riffing rockers on board on both sides of this platters.... Includes the sought after Zebra designed plastic lined inner sleeve One of those albums you may not know about but happen to stumble on, recognising the name due to the bands huge cult following -and give a listen, finding it to be very enjoyable and a worthy addition to a hardrock, Krautrock, oand or progressive rock collection. King Ping Meh burst upon the scene a year earlier in 1971 with their highly valued & sought after self titled first album. From there, Kin Ping Meh's second album is also a highly enjoyable underground heavy-rock album which combines some late 60's psychedelic rock with classic 70's bluesrock, which they stylishly pull a great deal from both Cream and (early)Deep Purple, actually managing to pull it off and sounding just as good, be it less flashy than Deep P and not as technical as both mentioned bands, but the energy is there. The album features great guitar soloing within the rocked up bass/drum core. Little psychedelic elements added by keyboards and spaced out guitar jams places it in the krautrock genre (early Eloy, Amon Düül II spring to mind, but you have to hear it, having mostly a classic early '70s rock sound . Come Down To The Riverside starts as a folkish (Led Zep style) psychedelic bluesrock song, lovely atmosphere, good energy and a good voice, with Don't Force Your Horses that energy and quality is continued with good guitar riffing (again Led Zep) augmented with a good melodic guitarsolo. Come Together is the Beatles song, actually a really strong cover, they create a great rhythm doing justice to the unsurpassable original, with great extended psychedelic guitar soloing - the kind of guitar sound many collectors of the genre will dig... Livable Ways is rather good, a bit more psychedelic than the first half of the album, with slower pace -- the dig deeper in the track to enjoy a build-up and the ultimate explosion, led by crafty guitar work. Day Dreams is not as good as the rest, basically after the nice intro it turns into a rock ballad which would have suited mainstream '70s rock. Very Long Ago offers a rural rock flair for the enjoyment factor, while I Wonna Be Lazy sets the band back into hard blues rock territory, a nice ending to the original album.
