We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Due to conflicts within the band MANFRED MANN, their highly acclaimed vocalist, Paul Jones, left the band due to what 'direction to proceed' after the famous British bands needs to expand past the "British Invasion" sounds of the U.K. sixties, in same path as The Beatles and others moved forward away from the genre.
Paul Jones was the figurehead of Manfred Mann in the mid sixties, largely due to offering not only a great voice, but a visual stylistic hip front man, so much so that virtually any band from that era would be pleased to have in their ranks. This fact was apparently lost on group leader/organist Manfred Mann, though to his credit, he reformed his group and went on to achieve further fame with hits ("Mighty Quin" etc.)
Despite having all the necessary ingredients for pop-star-isms, Paul Jones, surprisingly didn't catch on with another band. By 1971 filled with the drive to showcase his talents, he signed up with LONDON Records and released his only album, backed by a strong group. Problem was, by 1971, Paul Jones, the name, was no longer a focal point with the ever-changing 'rock' scene, especially in those years when a cast of heavy hitters emerged, Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc. Paul Jones fine solo album went completely under the radar. As a result the album, fine as it is, had limited exposure and virtually no promotion from London Records. They had The Stones and many other proficient artists by 1971. No matter how impressive or great Paul Jones was, London Records didn't obviously see the need to push this sixties star. Summed up, sadly, the cost of doing business in the ever-changing world of the rock scene, before it became formulated with uniqueness.
The 'fan man' hits the nail on the head:
"As lead singer of Manfred Mann during their early run of hits such as "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy," "Pretty Flamingo," and many, many others, Paul Jones was far more influential than people realize. Artists such as Arthur Lee of the famed "LOVE" have cited him as a primary influence, and for that fact alone, he should be recognized. After leaving Mann in 1966, Jones made one of the greatest cult films of all time, 1967's Privilege.
This, though, his solo debut, is another step altogether. Always one of the more literate rockers of his era, Jones spends most of his time on this album making fun of stardom and all that goes with it. Hotel rooms, groupies, and the general grind of it all is the subject matter here, and it's all quite a bit of fun. As far as the music goes, much of it is in a different direction in attempt to keep up with the (1971) times, moreso than anything Jones did with Manfred Mann.
Thomas Jefferson Kaye's production is a bit heavy-handed -- which is not much of a surprise. But in the end, it is an interesting record, sounding very much like a roots-oriented David Bowie record, slashing the tires of a car named "stardom."
