We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1970 first pressing issued just a few months after SELF PORTRAIT ... here's the deal:

NO ONE could keep writing songs like "Gates of Eden" and maintain his sanity. With New Morning, it seems like Dylan finally managed to extinguish the naked flame that fed his greatest moments, and find contentment in spending his time harmonizing with songs/the lonesome sparrow sings. Each loose number is a testament to the compromises one makes with the mad world of "Subterranean Homesick Blues" to find some kind of happiness. New Morning, released just four months after Self-Portrait, and there is enough strong material to recommend it.

On this album, Bob largely ditches the guitar and focuses primarily on rambling piano ballads. Being Dylan, his piano-playing is unpolished, his vocals are abrasive at times, it isn't hard to imagine it being knocked off in four months. Yet he is also more direct and heartfelt on this album than he had really ever been until this point, and he conveys a genuine warmth and sweetness (witness the awful beatnik spoken-word "When Dogs Run Free"). The best songs here are also spiritually akin in that Dylan's humanity shines through like almost no other rock songwriter can manage.

For example, one may be familiar with the opening track "If Not For You," as covered by George Harrison on All Things Must Pass. After hearing Harrison's glorious Phil Spector-ized version with its wall of acoustic guitars, the much more low-key Dylan version with its significantly dinkier organ part and ramshackle feel may get passed the listener on the first listen. Yet, ingesting the tune further reveals an overwhelming homely charm of the Dylan rendition and although the Harrison version is hard to beat, it's much closer than first thought.

The other major highlight for me is "Sign On the Window" which has the closing verse:

Built me a cabin in Utah
Marry me a wife, catch a rainbow trout
Have a bunch of kids who call me Pa
That must be what it's all about

Out of context, these lyrics seem almost embarrassingly naive. But in the context of the rest of the lyrics. ("Sign on a porch says, 'Three's a crowd'"), the tone is much more wistful. And in the context of the music, when you hear his rueful vocals in conjunction with his piano, it's deeply moving. Although Dylan is about the lyrics first and foremost (contrary to what the contrarians will have you believe), the way he sings the lyrics is just as important as how they are written down on paper, which is what nearly all the singer-songwriters who followed in his footsteps forgot.

CONDITION: The cover: This copy was sent to a radio station as a promo copy, it once had a numbered file sticker at top right which has been removed. There is light discoloration from removed sticker as well the file numbers have bled through a bit. Otherwise slight shelf wear starting...live with those two issues and the cover is stiff and splid all over with no bends, no writing and no split seams...the unique promo-only song titles sticker across the bottom front cover, making it a unique pre-release collectible. graded VG+ front cover, "EX" excellent back cover.

The vinyl: all clean and clear top copy, rated M- and plays beautiful ... both Columbia labels are clean
