TOP MINTY COPY from 40 years ago...

A lost treasure for the biker blues crowd. The track  "Greased Lightnin'" MAY be the first and only song about Jimi Hendrix written while Hendrix was still alive.

This is the 1970 second release (“Carry On Your Idea” being the first) by the late sixties Houston Texas band Smoke based on the Pacific West Coast, led by John Orvis (vocals-guitar), who composed all their material, the group also included Richard Floyd (bass-guitar-vocals), Eddie Beyer (keyboards), Earl Finn (bass-keyboards-guitar) and Phil Parker (drums).

Their music can best be described as "psychedelic boogie" epitomized by “Greased Lightnin’” an ode to Jimi Hendrix (recorded during his lifetime, was he flattered?) and the boogie bonanza “Brown Bread”. Loads of energy, jiving vocals, good guitar solos and powerful organ parts. The album was produced by Jimmie Haskell, one of the best producers/arrangers operating in the California studios in the sixties.
