PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. RARE 1970 HEAVY PSYCH/FUNK ORIGINAL!
Promotional Copy
THE PURPLE IMAGE
\ USA - MAP CITY - 3015 (PROMO)
EXCEEDINGLY RARE advanced release promotional
...file this rarity next to the likes of BLACK MERDA, NEXT MORNING and early Funkadelic ....for here is....thee Original 1970 first pressing of the PURPLE IMAGE and all that they've in store for you....
Released in 1970 on the obscure Map City label, founded by former Kama Sutra artists and song writer, the ex-Tradewinds Pete Anders and Vincent Poncia, Cleveland-based Purple Image sadly managed only this lone effort. It’s clever use of fuzz and wahwah guitar demonstrates a clear Hendrix influence, as does the second side’s final track, Marching To A Different Drummer, a 15-minute guitar jam extravaganza. The overall sound is tight and driving, making for a truly excellent album which also features some really nice cover art. Continuing on this funk hunt- here's the sole release and 1970 debut of Cleveland . A lot has been made about the super-heavy psych-funk Purple Image crew, working less within the more dominant (for black artists) soul idiom of the time, but that only serves to obscure just how funky this album is. It's as heavy as Jimi Hendrix a la "Machine Gun" or The Stooges on Fun House. And like on those examples, even at the height of heaviness, it's not just heavy metal excess- it's hard and mean and direct, and still ultimately groove-based. Truly a Black Rock Beast, is Purple Image. The highest highlight for me is the opener, "Living in the Ghetto", a rip-roaring series of ghetto tableau ("Mama's in the kitchen cookin' midnight supper!"), punctuated by utterly wicked electric guitar "Machine Gun"-isms. You might actually hear specific licks swiped from "Machine Gun", a worthy source to quote if ever there was one, and it enriches the track's dialogue between Black Music and Heavy Metal. (Come to think of it, The Stooges said they were cribbing "Machine Gun" when they wrote "Dirt" in this same year, to continue the Fun House comparisons.)
The other enormous highlight of the record is a monstrous version of Bob Craig's "Marching to a Different Drummer". A thrashing, relentless, fifteen-and-a-half minute onslaught that starts out as a funky singalong, then mutates into a psych-rock apocalypse, complete with a free-wailing sax to drive the guitars into chaos, and a crunchy harmonica infusion near the end.
