PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Highly Sought After FIRST PRESS (see complee details below) ...
RARE original 1968 FIRST PRESSING of one of the great 'happening' sounds from the fuzzed garage psych sixties, the Lopllipop Shoppe had all the moves driven with infectious self penned tunes... none better than their fantastic You Must Be A Witch ....
Originally the Lollipop Shoppe were from Las Vegas, where they were known as The Weeds when they migrated to Portland, Oregon and changed their name - when The Seeds' manager Lord Tim took them on. Band leader, Fred Cole later formed seventies band Zipper. The opening cut 'You Must Be A Witch' is reminiscent of Love at their most frantic. Other strong tracks on the album are the killer garage punk tunes 'Underground Railroad', 'Don't Close The Door On Me' and 'Its Only A Reflection'. Led by sneering/snotty singer Fred Cole, who had formerly been in the Northwest punk band the Weeds, the Lollipop Shoppe's sole album (from 1968) ranks as one of the better psych-punk LPs, and also as one of the better one-shot rock records of the late '60s. Featuring Cole's choked, bitter phrasing, the group staked out the middle ground between the Seeds (who shared the same manager in ex- Los Angeles DJ "Lord Tim") and Arthur Lee's Love, with a bit of fellow L.A. psych-punkers the Music Machine thrown in. If comparisons must be made, they were definitely closer in tone to Love than the Seeds, with a mixture of raunch and reflection in the spirit of Arthur Lee. Cole was one of the few psychedelic performers to make a contribution during the punk era, surfacing in the Portland punk band the Rats in the late '70s.
The bands only album, 'Just Colour' is a good document of 'psychedelic rock' from that era. Rocking out hard, yet with a gentle and beautiful song like 'Only A Reflection' as well, it's no surprise that some of the Lollipop Shoppe songs (like 'Don't Look Back' and 'You Must Be A Witch') easily fit in with Fred Coles Dead Moon set list, even today.
After the Lollipop Shoppe broke up in 1969, Fred played in local Portland bands "Zipper" and "Dead Moon" -but- The name of the Lollipop Shoppe however will not easily be forgotten, since countless cover versions of 'You Must Be A Witch' surfaced in the eighties garage rock boom, and lots of garage punk bands of today also pick this song for their set list.
