HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE 1967 **CLEAN** MONOPHONIC FIRST PRESSING !! Harder to find than you would imagine in MONO ...the mono release was fewer since it was the last year companies produced the format, phasing it out ... the mono issue offers different song mixes as well as a deep punch in the sound production...

C'mon everybody, let's play 60's pop quiz, shall we? Good, let's start with the easy one: which band had the best vocalist in the 60's? No, this is not a matter of taste, it's a fact. And then the second question: which was the best US No.1 hit in that decade? That's a fact too, by the way. Yes, it is! I'm the hostess of this quiz, and I can decide which is the fact, capiche?  

OK, let's get serious then and to the review... Oh, you wanted to know the answers to my questions... well, they are: The Turtles and "Happy Together". And Howard Kaylan was the fellow with that heavenly voice. I would go even so far that I would name him the vocalist of the Century. Now all Frank Sinatra fans are going to harass me, but I will take that risk.

Now, the most important question here is: is the album of that same name any good? Yes, it is. Of course there is nothing even close to the pop perfection that is "Happy Together", but few album has. Very few. There is the chirpy hit "She'd Rather Be with Me", "Guide for the Married Man", a great theme song from the film of the same name, a couple of inspired pieces, "Too Young to Be One" and "Makin' My Mind Up". "Like the Seasons" is a sweet little ballad. "Me About You" and "Think I'll Run Away" are also nice. "The Walking Song" and "A Person Without a Care" are good, without the strong pop hooks in the rest, while "Rugs of Woods and Flowers" is just psychedelic. Well, Turtles got stoned too, I mean, this was the sixties, man, so one can except something like that from them.

Overall, a well-done job. Before that they were folk-pop group, and after that they really started to write their own songs and became quite experimental. Happy Together was clearly the strongest, the most cohesive of their five albums, and the one which didn't try to be anything but a collection of quality uplifting, sunny and catchy pop songs.

CONDITION: The cover features the slightly raised mono release design and is all solid clean and sharp, "EX" (excellent) ...very hard to find this clean, the dark cover usually shows shelf wear, this is a well preserved first edition that escaped wear. The back cover is M- (dark colors too) !no seam splitting, no bends, no writing, all over stiff and solid.

The vinyl is all glossy both sides, couple minor nothing hairline scuffs is all, visual: VG++ to "EX" (excellent) and plays straight up clean ...upper top level playback, highly collectible orig from 43 years ago!

      A cool addition to anyone's music library!
