Heartbeat,
Why do you miss when my baby kisses me,
Heartbeat,
Why does a love kiss stay in my memory,
Piddly pat,
I know that new love thrills me,
I know that true love will be,
Heartbeat,
Why do you miss when my baby kisses me,
Heartbeat,
Why do you skip when my babies lips meet mine,
Heartbeat,
Why do you flip and give me a skip each sign,
Piddly pat,
And sing to me love's story,
And bring to me love's glory,
Heartbeat,
Why do you miss when my baby kisses me
"Heartbeat" is credited to Bob Montgomery and Norman Petty and recorded originally by Buddy Holly in 1958. It reached number 30 in the UK Singles Chart twice for Holly, once in January 1959, and again in April 1960 (as a re-issue). It was also a minor hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Knack included a version of "Heartbeat" on their 1979 hit debut album, Get the Knack. But the biggest chart success came for actor Nick Berry who sang a cover version in 1992, taken from the popular UK TV series of the same name. His version of the song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.
The English rock and roll revival band, Showaddywaddy, also had a hit with the song in the 1970s, reaching number 7 in the UK chart in September 1975.
