TOMMY SCOTT
Rare 1952 45rpm
Tommy Scott, also known as "Doc" Tommy Scott and "Ramblin" Tommy Scott, has been in Country music for some six decades. He learned to play guitar from a neighbor and got his first job in a medicine show about 1936. By that time he had already played on radio at WAIM in nearby Anderson, South Carolina. Tommy worked with various medicine shows and at radio stations in Greensboro, Greenville, and Raleigh, all in the Carolinas, when he went to WWVA Wheeling in 1939 as a member of Charlie Monroe’s Kentucky Pardners.
Through the 1940s Tommy Scott worked the road heavily, usually based at various radio stations. In 1946, Tommy filmed some fifty-two quarter hour television shows for syndication, putting him somewhat ahead of his time in this respect. The shows were later combined to make twenty-six half-hour programs. Over the years, Tommy recorded for several labels including Bullet, Four Star, Macy’s, and especially, King. While none of his discs became hits, they stand as fine examples of mainstream Country music of the late 40’s and early 50’s. [Century of Country]
