COMMENT: Amazon Editorial
Signed to the French based Carerre label, home of Saxon, Rose Tattoo and Dokken, Liverpool's Rage quickly established themselves as an influential part of the emerging NWOBHM scene. This debut album, issued in 1981, was produced by man of the moment Pete Hinton (Saxon, Demon) giving the material a contemporary, rough-hewn, sheen. Musically, the songs focussed on tight riffs and memorable hooks, giving vocalist Dave Lloyd a platform to ably demonstrate his range and style.
COMMENT:
Line Up
David Lloyd (v) – also in Nutz, 2AM, Spitfire, Sliced Bread and Uli Jon Roth
Terry Steers (g) – also in Spitfire, Tawntaw and Thin End Of The Wedge
Mick Devenport (g) – also in Nutz, Space Cadets, Spitfire, Free Spirit and Field Force
Keith Mulholland (b) – also in Nutz, Zen Machine and Garth Rockett and the Moonshiners
John Mylett (d) – also in Nutz, Spitfire, Weather Girls and Nightwing
Notes:
– Rage is actually the continuation or maybe the natural progression of the 1970s Hard Rock band Nutz who were active since 1973.
– Supported Rory Gallagher on his 1981 UK tour and one year later Uriah Heep for their ‘Conquest’ tour. The also provided support to Meat Loaf’s UK tour in 1983.
– Just before the release of their third and final album, Rage released the curious 7″ “So You Want to Be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” (Carrere, 1982) under the name Spitfire
– Reformed in 2004 for a memorial one-off gig for drummer John Mylett who tragically died in a car accident in 1984 in Ibiza, Spain. The gig took place on November 28th at Fogherty’s Club in Liverpool
