The Roland Rennie Collection

Coming up for the foreseeable future, is a record collection that is quite unique. It is the personal collection of the late great Mr. Roland Rennie who was the managing director at Polydor records in the UK during the 1960's and 1970's. There are some unique records, including 7 inch singles and LP's, along with Acetates, Demo's/Promo's and Factory sample records. Most are very early issues, if not the first to be produced. All of the main Polydor artists are present, including international and UK labels connected to Polydor.
In 1950, a young man named Roland Rennie joined EMI records in Hayes, Middlesex, UK. Roland quickly grew with the company and saw its success mushroom manyfold during the late 1950's and early 1960's.
During his 12 years at EMI, he held many positions and eventually became the right hand man to EMI managing director, L.G. Wood in 1959, and was closely involved with major affiliation switches by major American firms. He oversaw the changes from British Decca to EMI and of Liberty and United records. His experience would put him in the top 6 of most knowledgeable executives in the industry at that time.
In 1962, Roland was a member of the team reponsible for the conception of the 'Stateside' label, which became the outlet in the UK and many other countries for: Scepter, Vee Jay, Diamond, Swan, Laurie; and a dozen other U.S. ensigns.
In addition, under instruction from Sir George Martin, Roland was also the person responsible for The Beatles' entrance onto the American stage, and was directly involved in negotations for them to appear on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time.
In 1965, he left EMI to take up the position of managing director at Polydor records in the UK, and directly oversaw the signings to the label of: The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Bee Gees, Sonny & Cher, Wilson Pickett, Ben E King, Otis Redding, The Drifters, Joe Tex, Patti and her Belles, Don Covay, Barbara Lewis and Soloman Burke, to name but a few.

On offer today, an early 1974 UK Factory Sample Stereo 12" Vinyl Lp by Queen titled 'Sheer Heart Attack' on the red and beige EMI label with a Factory Sample - Not For Sale sticker on side 1.

Matrix side 1: YAX 4881 - 4U (1 TO) TML-M.
Matrix side 2: YAX 4882 - 4U (15 GGG)

Side 1 condition:
Side 1 plays through beautifully with no jumps or sticks or loud pops. There is some light background noise here and there, especially during quieter sections, but the quality of the vinyl still remains generally free of major background noise. 8/10.

The surface and shine of the vinyl is very good plus with a few light surface lines . 8/10

The EMI label on side 1 with a Factory Sample - Not For Sale sticker and 'Trident Audio' credit, is in excellent condition, 9/10, with no evident surface wear and very few light spider trails around the centre hole.

Generally, the label is very pleasing to the eye with a little age bit of age discolouration to the background. The printed text boldly stands out with no fading present.

Side 2 condition:

Side 2 plays through beautifully with very little background noise and no sticks or jumps. The transition from each song is excellent. 8.5/10.

The excellent shine of the vinyl on side 2 is equal to that as described on side 1. There are no greasy fingerprint marks and only a few surface lines which do not affect play. 8/10

The EMI label on side 2 is in excellent condition, 9/10. There is very little discolouration or fading evident and little wear around the centre hole also. The text remains visually bold with no obvious fading.

The inner sleeve is in very good plus condition with no fading, no tears, no seam splits, some creasing and a little bit of discolouration. 8/10.

The outer sleeve is in very good condition overall with no splits or tears. The front panel has a great shine to it and a good shape. There is a bit of laminate creasing around the perimeter and 'Rennie' written in pencil in the  top right hand corner.

The spine text reads perfectly with a little bit wear here and there but the shape is very good with a little discolouration and light corner rubbing.
On the rear there is very little discolouration or fading to the panel but there some smaller creases to the  laminate around the perimeter. 7/10 overall.
