Description
redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and very rare 10” LP from Telefunken (LB 6035, German pressing, red/gold label, mono only – no stereo edition exists) features the legendary Quatuor Haydn of Brussels in an exalted account of Mozart’s String Quartet No. 14 in G Major K. 387 “Spring”, warmly recorded at the Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels, on 4 October 1952.
At this time the Haydn-Quartett was comprised of George Maes (1st violin), Louis Hertogh (2nd violin), Louis Logie (viola), and René Pousseele (cello). This is exalted chamber music making by any measure and all those who cherish the art of the quartet will find much to admire here. The sound is first rate.
In lieu of liner notes the left interior panel of the gatefold jacket contains a listing of other titles in Telefunken’s “Langspielplatte” series. The lovely cover art is uncredited, alas.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the gatefold jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping at corners and minor creasing, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is occasional light surface noise, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
