Description
Django Reinhardt (guitar) and Stephane Grappelly (hot fiddle) featured in The Quintet of the Hot Club of France on four Decca records. Decca Album No. 207 Personality Series. Here are the songs on four 10" 78 rpm records: Avalon / Clouds; Djangology / Ultrafox; Lilly Belle May June / Some of these Days; Limehouse Blues / I found a New Baby. I found, buy doing some research in The Almost Complete 78 RPM Record Dating Guide, that these records were recorded in 1936-1937. But I believe the album itself was issued about the same time as the volume 2 album during the early 1940's. So I think these records were repressed about 1942 or 43 for the album. All four records have Album No. 207 on the label and show the correct sequencing for the eight sides. You might be wondering why one record is red Decca, two are block letter black Decca, and one is script letter black Decca. I don't know the answer to this unless Decca was changing their label and logo at the time. The conditon of the album is very good showing some slight wear to the corners, but the covers and sleeves are in great shape. The records show very little use, play great, and are between E- and E+ depending on the record. These albums are of course very rare and desirable by the jazz fan and guitar record collector.
