Queen : The Works A1 / B2 1st Press

This first pressing plays to an exceptional standard and judging by the clarity and depth of the recording may well have never been played before.  Indeed there is no spindle wear and both sides have no interference at all.  A FINAL UPGRADE version for certain.  Having listened in full to every track, sometimes twice, this is very much an informed opinion.  In essence the most 'complete' sound you could hope for, a time warp classic :-)

This standard is very much maintained with the cover and lyric inner which are also in perfect condition.

 Visual grading

The vinyl has a stunning jet-black glossy sheen and looks 'as new' no word of a lie.  It is a beautiful example and if it has ever been played there is no loss in sound quality whatsoever.  There are no scratches or marks on either side and I cannot detect any hairlines either, an immaculate vinyl for sure.  There is no spindle wear and the run grooves and labels are super clean with no marking - a beautifully preserved album.

Play grading

The run in on S1 has no 'background' so you're immediately thinking you're onto a winner!  The intro on the classic 'Radio Ga Ga' then plays without fault and this clarity and definition is prevalent throughout the entire track.  It is a stunning version and grades as Mint as there is no interference of any kind.

'Tear It Up' plays loud and true and for once without any distortion.  This is such a powerful version and already it is patently obvious this record has hardly ever been played.  There is not even a dust tick here and grades as Mint such is the 'high end' quality.      

The intro on 'It's A Hard Life' often plays with 'background' but the opening 'operatic' section followed by the quieter first verse quite simply play 'as new'.  It continues to play with exceptional audio with, you guessed it, no interference.  The playback could not be any 'cleaner' and an example of this is during the quieter mid piano section which plays beautifully with no intrusion and on the fade out which has only a couple of barely audible dust ticks right at the end.  I am confident in grading this as Mint also. 

As many Queen fans know 'Man On The Prowl' often plays with distortion but I am delighted to say this is one of the strongest versions you could ever wish to hear.  The clarity of sound is outstanding, honestly has this ever been played?!  Even the up tempo end section has no distortion.  A fantastic

'Machines' on S2 begins in sublime fashion.  With no dust ticks on the intro the audio could not be any clearer and it continues in exactly the same way.  This is often a track you have to turn down due to distortion but in no way is that the case here.  Another fantastic example of a barely played vinyl.  From start to finish this is Mint and the sonic quality cannot be underestimated.  What a version!

Again I have no wish to repeat myself but 'I Want To Break Free' is immaculate from the first note to the last and yes every second has been listened to as always!  Mint all the way.

'Keep Passing The Open Windows' is equally as good with no 'background' of any kind, the clarity and depth is 'as new' and again the fade out plays with perfect precision.  That is how good the clarity is here.

The classic 'Hammer To Fall' is phenomenal from the very first groove!  A powerhouse of a track this plays with stunning power and with such a 'clean' sound it can only be described as Mint.  A superb version that sounds even better on the second listen!  No distortion or interference at all.

'Is This The World We Created...?' ends this 'as new' album with supreme quality and the clarity here is just out of this world.  I cannot remember when I last heard one this 'clean' there is literally no interference, not a single dust tick, and the playback is sensational.  Beautiful is the correct word here and especially in these trying times.

In summary this FINAL UPGRADE first pressing is of a standard that is so rarely found today.  There are no clicks or pops, no static or crackle and no distortion either which is very much a rarity.  The clarity and definition of the audio is so impressive and let's not forget it is 36 years old this year.  The cover and lyric inner are also in sublime condition. 

The Cover

This is unquestionably one of the finest covers you will ever find.  It is in beautiful condition and has been so well preserved.  The edges and spine are in perfect condition and rarely there is no corner wear either.  The opening edge is also pristine.  The front cover is nigh on perfect with only a minor hint of fading top right and the back cover has only a couple of very small 'spots'.  A fine example overall.

The Lyric Inner

This looks untouched and is in a word...stunning!  It is Mint in every sense of the word.  This edition has the squared off corners.

The Labels

They are both 'as new' and have retained their deep colour perfectly.  There is no marking or writing and no spindle wear.
