It's just straight Queen compositions unedited and shows that Queen was an awesome Live band during their 16 years of performing live, hugely talented. Freddie Mercury is an underrated keyboardist and he really goes to town on the piano on tracks like "Spread Your Wings", "Don't Stop Me Now" and "I'm In Love With My Car" while also playing the whistle heard on the album and the maracas and doing some awesome vocalizing, his voice here is really in fine form. Brian May provides some awesome multilayerd guitar work as well as fine acoustic and regular electric guitar. Roger Tayler drums up a storm and shows his percussive virtuosity on the tympani and John Deacon lays down a solid electric and double bass. It all comes together nicely.

The Queen + Paul Rodgers collaboration began in late 2004 when Queen was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. Guitarist Brian May had previously performed with Paul Rodgers, formerly of Bad Company and Free, The Firm and The Law, on several occasions. May and Queen drummer Roger Taylor have been active in the music industry since the death of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991 and the retirement of bassist John Deacon in the late 1990s. Following in the footsteps of Mercury is no doubt a daunting task, but fans across the globe embraced Paul Rodgers as the band performed a greatest hits tour. Resulting from the tour is this three-LP box set that includes all of the Queen classics – "We Are the Champions," "Another One Bites the Dust," "Bohemeian Rhpasody" – along with Bad Company and Free songs such as "All Right Now" and "Can't Get Enough." Though at first glance a third Queen hits collection might seem to stretch the bounds of credibility, upon reflection this collection may well be the most revealing and compelling of the lot. Gathered from disparate late-career band and solo projects as well as Freddie Mercury tributes with guest vocalists filling the shoes of the band's late singer (ELTON JOHN dramatically on "The Show Must Go On,"GEORGE MICHAEL playfully over-the-top on "Somebody to Love"), it's a collection that coalesces into a thematically and musically satisfying whole. Though oft criticized for their unapologetic excesses, Queen's brash infusion of rock and blues with operatic drama and scale (deliciously exemplified here by "Barcelona," Mercury's duet with diva MONTSERRAT CABALLE) was unique. III isn't so much a collection of hits as a well-paced, lovingly compiled homage to Freddie Mercury and his distinctly arch artistic vision.

This was Freddie Mercury's first solo album, recorded during some down time in between Queen albums. With all songs written and sung by 

Freddie (as well as a significant part of the mixing and production), Mr. Bad Guy sounds similar to, but not quite like, contemporary Queen 

albums The Works and A Kind Of Magic. Because no other Queen members plays on the album, Brian May's distinctive-sounding guitar and 

both his and Roger Taylor's voices are not present. If I sound like I'm saying that something is missing, I'm not, only that Freddie is the focus 

here. And he rises to the occasion to deliver the goods. The songs are excellent examples of why Freddie was such a powerhouse musician; 

all of them are good, and some of them are superb. Every time I listen to Made In Heaven, I get shivers running up my spine because I find 

the song so nice. One criticism that I've heard about Mr. Bad Guy is that it has a certain over reliance on keyboards and synthesizers. While 

it's true that these are present, they aren't any worse or more apparent than on other pop and rock material of the era; if anything, they are 

actually integrated into the material better than in many other albums from the time. Although not always the easiest (or cheapest) album to 

get a hold of, it is definitely a worthy addition to any Queen fan (or music fan's) collection.

Queen's landmark 1977 album News of the World returns, marking its 40th Anniversary!

Originally launched in October 1977, News of the World is one of Queen's biggest selling albums of all time. It opens with two of the band's most indestructible worldwide hits, the Brian May-penned "We Will Rock You" and Freddie Mercury's "We Are The Champions," monumental stadium anthems which remain a staple of major sporting events all around the world to this day. With songs written by all four band members, NOTW, Queen's sixth album, set a new standard in stylistic diversity, from Roger Taylor's proto-punk blast of "Sheer Heart Attack" to the salacious funk-rock groove workout "Get Down Make Love," to the fragrant tropical calypso-pop "Who Needs You." News of the World also features the hit "Spread Your Wings," the epic rock saga "It's Late" and Freddie's wistfully romantic "My Melancholy Blues."

The new package includes the original album on CD, plus two more CDs of recently unearthed out-takes and rarities from the band's archives, one of which is a newly created "alternative" version of the whole album — Raw Sessions.

For many Queen devotees, this Raw Sessions CD will be the most intriguing component of the new release. Mined deep from long-vaulted studio multi-track tapes, this extraordinary parallel album brings to light never-before-heard alternative versions of each of the album's 11 tracks. Every lead vocal is different, as are most of the lead guitar parts and a great many other instrumental details. Here we experience "We Are The Champions" anew, with many unfamiliar vocal and instrumental elements, and for the first time at its full-recorded length rather than the edited 1977 album cut. Here also is the chance to discover peak era Freddie Mercury vocals on a track that nobody outside Queen's inner circle has heard him sing before at all - Brian May's "All Dead, All Dead."

The original album version features May himself on vocals. Roger Taylor's "Sheer Heart Attack" can be heard with its original long-lost guitar intro and uncut ending. Taylor's other song, "Fight From The Inside," is more remarkable in that we hear his demo vocal worked on in his home studio in preparation for the next sessions, "homework" that all of the band members would regularly carry out. As a point of note, Taylor plays all instruments on these two recordings, except for some lead guitar. In this age of digital leaks and obsessive fan culture, there is already great excitement that these recordings are, in 2017, truly New to the World.

The third CD in the package, Bonus Tracks, features a feast of previously released but hard-to-find versions of News of the World tracks recorded in concert, for radio shows, or in alternate mixes. Included is the band's entire five-song final live session recorded for BBC Radio in October 1977, seven live performances of NOTW songs, plus rare backing tracks and instrumentals of the Queen classics "We Will Rock You," "We Are The Champions," "Spread Your Wings," "Get Down, Make Love" and "Fight From The Inside." Also on this third disc is the seldom-heard U.S. radio edit of "It's Late," making its belated CD debut, and the rowdy stomper "Feelings Feelings," which was recorded during the original NOTW sessions but not included on the final album.

 

Another outstanding feature of this weighty 40th Anniversary box is another first — a pure analogue re-cut of the original vinyl LP, direct from the unmastered analogue master mix tapes. This exceptional album collector's piece is presented in a facsimile original sleeve. There is also a rich selection of NOTW related memorabilia including three posters and a 60-page book of images, mostly previously unseen.

The package is completed with a brand new one-hour DVD documentary, "Queen: The American Dream," created from backstage material filmed during Queen's 1977 USA News of the World tour. In November that year, Queen embarked on another headlining U.S. tour. The highly respected British radio and TV presenter Bob Harris, complete with full film crew, followed their journey as part of a proposed documentary that has remained incomplete and unreleased — until now. The crew had unlimited access to the band on and off stage, in the recording studio and during rehearsals. This one-hour documentary includes superb live footage of Queen at the Houston Summit in December. We also see moments from the birth of "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions," songs that would both earn a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. "Queen: The American Dream" is a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into a young British band at a creative peak, defying the odds as they take the U.S.A. by storm.

For the first time ever audio tracks from Queen's legendary performance at Live Aid are being released as part of the soundtrack album to the 2019 Golden Globe Winning film Bohemian Rhapsody, 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises' 2018 feature film celebrating the band, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Recorded at the historic Wembley concert in July 1985, these Live Aid songs are among the rare gems and unheard versions from the band's rich catalogue. Alongside the show-stopping Live Aid performances of "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Radio Ga Ga", "Hammer To Fall" and "We Are The Champions", the album features other rare live tracks spanning Queen's entire career, new versions of old favorites, and a choice selection of the band's finest studio recordings. Among them are some of Queen's biggest hits, including eleven all-time greatest anthems that reached No. 1 around the world.

Bohemian Rhapsody the film stars Rami Malek as Freddie, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Joe Mazzello as John Deacon, and Lucy Boynton as Freddie's lifelong companion Mary Austin. The soundtrack features all-original Queen recordings and vocals, produced by Brian May and Roger Taylor, with engineering and co-production by long-time Queen studio collaborators Justin Shirley-Smith, Kris Fredriksson and Joshua J Macrae.

The key task for the team behind the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack was sourcing the most suitable versions of the band's songs, especially live performances, to fit the screenplay's career-spanning narrative. Their brief was not merely to produce a greatest hits playlist package but a soundtrack album to stand on its own merits, underscoring key moments in the screenplay. May, Taylor, and their co-producers worked with the filmmakers to find the best versions of each track to heighten the dramatic power of each scene. Ensuring that listeners are in no doubt they are listening to a soundtrack album, Brian came up with the inspired idea that Queen should record their own arrangement of the famous 20th Century Fox Fanfare. Featuring May's famous multi-layered guitars and Roger Taylor's distinctive percussion, this revamped track provides a suitably flamboyant opening fanfare to both film and album.

The five tracks from Queen's 21-minute performance at Live Aid on July 13, 1985, have never been released in audio form before. They've only ever been featured on video as a special extra on the DVD/BluRay release of Queen Rock Montreal, which features the Montreal Forum shows of November 1981. The Live Aid audio is exclusive to this new soundtrack album. Other tracks on the soundtrack have been sourced from different decades and even different continents. "Fat Bottomed Girls" comes from the 1979 Paris shows, part of the Jazz world tour, and has never been released before. "Now I'm Here" was recorded at the band's 1975 Christmas Eve show at London's Hammersmith Odeon. And the history making duet between Freddie and Brian on "Love of My Life" comes from the Rock in Rio festival of January 1985 when 300,000 Brazilians sang along. Previously this track was only available to fans on the video releases of this performance. The three remaining songs on the soundtrack will be fresh to Queen fans, old and new. "We Will Rock You" starts out as the studio version, then seamlessly blends into a live performance with audience participation. This has been created especially for the film. "Don't Stop Me Now" features Brian's newly recorded guitar parts and is much closer to how the band plays the track live today. "Doing All Right" was originally recorded by Smile, the predecessor band to Queen that featured Brian and Roger with vocalist Tim Staffell. When Tim later left, Roger and Brian would join forces with Freddie to form Queen. Freddie's interpretation of the song is featured on the first Queen album. To recreate the original Smile version, Brian and Roger reunited with Staffell at Abbey Road Studios to re-record "Doing All Right" for the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack. This session which featured Roger, Tim and Brian all singing lead vocals took place almost 50 years after the original Smile recording.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is regularly cited as one of the greatest songs ever recorded. In 2004, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and Freddie Mercury's vocal performance was named by the readers of Rolling Stone magazine as the best in rock history.

The Bohemian Rhapsody film and its original soundtrack album are certain to introduce Queen to a new generation of listeners, and remind existing fans just how magnificent the band was in its prime. Queen remain spectacular performers today, both live and in the studio, their songs having comfortably stood the test of time. After almost 50 years together, Queen remain one of the most exciting and beloved bands in rock history.
