News Of The World 1/2 First pressing

On offer here is a stunning first press of News of The World.  The audio is absolutely stunning and the gatefold has also been superbly well maintained down the years.  This is also a very early first pressing judging by the stampers.

The audio on Side One is Near Mint

Visual grading

  This is in pristine condition.  Very rarely do you see a first press looking as immaculate as this.  It has a wonderful glossy sheen and with only a couple of barely noticeable spindle lines it is obvious this vinyl has hardly been played.  I could only see two very faint hairlines on Side Two, this vinyl really is in superb condition for nearly 40 years old.

Play grading  

Side One plays with immaculate audio quality and rarely have I heard better.  There is no interference at all and the clarity is absolutely stunning.  You only hear a few very light dust ticks which you always find and with complete silence between the tracks this ranks as almost Mint.  The sonic quality and richness of the sound is certainly high end and it is so rare to find a first pressing sounding as good as this.  Even the quiet sections play in superb style and 'All Dead All Dead' is a classic example of this.  'Fight From The Inside' only plays with a little distortion towards the end.  I generally find on early pressings that it is prevalent throughout the track.

'Get Down Make Love' has a couple of light clicks at the start but apart from that there is almost no background noise.  It sounds fabulous!  'Sleeping On The Sidewalk' plays as if the vinyl was pressed yesterday the quality is that good and the same can be said for 'Who Needs You'.  The strength of the audio is breathtaking and quite honestly sounds like new.  I cannot use enough superlatives for the sound quality here!  The classic 'It's Late' does not disappoint either and the intro plays with 100% Mint audio.  I heard a little static in a handful of places thereafter but quite honestly it does not intrude on the sheer quality on offer.  'My Melancholy Blues' ends the LP with excellent audio although there is a little crackle on this track and one dull pop.  Yes it still sounds great but it is a shame in a way as all the other tracks just play in immaculate fashion.

Gatefold cover

The G & L gatefold is in superb order and has been extremely well maintained since 1977.  I will grade it as Near Mint- as there is a little rubbing on the corners and very minor creasing on one of the corners of the back cover.  The edges and wide spine are very clean and judging by the quality of the vinyl the cover hasn't been removed from the shelf too many times.  The inside of the gatefold is beautifully clean.  This gatefold is certainly in great condition considering its age.

Lyric inner

The die-cut lyric inner is in excellent condition with only one very minor split to the right hand side.  So often these paper inners have large splits so this one is relatively unspoilt.

The labels

They are both in immaculate condition with no marks/writing and there are only a couple of tiny, almost invisible spindle lines on each side.
