BRISTOL'S No.1 RARE RECORD SHOP      Item details ...............

This is the extremely rare unreleased withdrawn demo version of Queens "Keep yourself
Alive/Son and Daughter", EMI 2036, in virtually unplayed condition.

Reputedly, only a few copies of this pressing survived after withdrawal and only a
handful have ever been offered for sale over the last 44 years. A few emerged some six
years ago now, one in 2013, none since.

The release date on the label  reads 15.6.73 - the eventual demo has the later date of
6.7.73 printed on the label. This  version also lists Neptune Productions on the credits
which is  missing from the final demo  release.  Other differences include the location of the
P 1973, the copy under the trident logo and a publishing credit above the Queen logo that
doesn't feature on the later demo.

More importantly of course, the track is an otherwise unreleased mix.

As you can see from the photos there's a small sticker on each label, which could be
removed with a little lighter fluid or similar, but we'd rather leave that decision to the
buyer. The A-side label has a tiny bit of wear below the L of resale as shown, otherwise
both labels are clean and free of any spindle marks and the vinyl surface  is  free of any
play wear.

The matrix and stampers read EMI 2036 A-1U 1 G KT / EMI 2036 B-1U 1 G KT

The term "Rare" crops up on listings all the time on eBay, this single deserves that
distinction -  a genuinely rare opportunity to own very rare  piece of Rock history.

Some copies of the “June 15th” 7? exist and surfaced some years ago thanks to John Ingham, former

EMI Press officer, who saved some of them. Here’s what he recalls about this rare single:

“In 1973 I worked at EMI Records as a Press Officer. It was my job to send music critics and journalists

the latest records and get stories and interviews in the press.

When the single “keep Yourself Alive” came into the office there was quite a bit of interest because it

was intended to be the single that broke them as a commercial success. I had a box of 25 to send out to

the press and the first few had gone when I received a message that I was to stop giving them away

and all copies had to be handed back. This went to everyone in the building. The wrong mix had

pressed up as Dj/Promotion copies. Now it was being recalled and a new single pressed up and

released.

I took the box with it’s precious records home with me and put them away. I had 14 records. I asked

around the office and everyone had given their records back. They had even been taken back from

radio DJ’s. It looks like mine were the only copies that didn’t go back”.
