Description

QUEEN I 3U/2U (very 1st pressing)

On offer here is a very rare 3U/2U first pressing of Queen's debut LP which has 'Kip-Huggy Poo Kissy' etched on the dead wax of Side One and 'Off With His Head' etched on Side Two.  There are no other earlier matrix codes so this pressing is a highly collectible one indeed and especially in this condition.

Visual grading

This very rare LP is in astounding condition for its age.  It retains that glossy sheen of new vinyl and under a strong bright light I can only detect a handful of very fine hairlines on each side.   and having listened to the whole LP I can confirm it sounds as good as it looks.  It is stunning to the naked eye and when you consider its rarity this is a real gem.

Play grading

I can count on one hand how many 3U/2U pressings I have heard and this 'Keep Yourself Alive' has the best audio without a shadow of a doubt.  It plays so deep and rich with a superb deep bass sound and with no interference!  'Doing All Right' also plays with stunning clarity and only the slightest hint of static.  So far I am blown away by the quality of the audio here!  'Great King Rat' has a couple of light clicks at the beginning and then plays with first class audio.  'My Fairy King' continues this quality right to the end.  Hardly any static even during the quiet sections.  The ending is sublime also with no static at all, stunning!

'Liar' begins Side Two with no static at the beginning can you believe.  Thereafter it plays with almost zero interference, amazing clarity for a vinyl of 43 years.  'The Night Comes Down' plays very clearly with just faint static here but is not obtrusive, still a great listen.  'Modern Times...' has great audio and no background noise.  The remaining tracks do have some distortion which is a shame considering the quality on the rest of the LP.  In saying the tracks are still totally playable just not as good as the rest!

Cover

The Garrod and Lofthouse is in excellent condition overall when you consider its age.  There is some shelf wear but this one is so much better than others I have seen.  The two bottom edges have the most rubbing and the top corner also has a little wear.  Apart from that the edges are very clean and the front and back of the cover are very much intact and have stood the test of time very well.  There are a few very minor creases around the edges but you would expect that.  The opening edge is also very clean and the thin pinched spine is in excellent shape.  'Queen' and the catalogue number remain 100% legible both on the spine and along the top edge.  There are no marks on the cover at all.

In summary this is a quality first press with stunning audio except on the final couple of tracks on Side Two.  It is so rare to find a 3U/2U copy anyway so to find one as good as this makes it even more collectible.

Inner sleeve

This has the original 'Care of your Record' sleeve.  It does have a small split at the bottom and interestingly a small sticker on one side stating "July 1973 No 24".  This debut LP was released in July '73 so maybe the sticker dates back to then!  It could easily do so being as this is a genuine first press.

Labels

They are in excellent condition with barely any spindle wear.  At first glance they appear Mint but when you tilt the LP at a certain angle you can see some 'spotting' on each side.
