Queen were straining at the boundaries of hard rock and heavy metal on Sheer Heart Attack, but they broke down all the barricades on A Night at the Opera, a self-consciously ridiculous and overblown hard rock masterpiece.
Using the multi-layered guitars of its predecessor as a foundation, A Night at the Opera encompasses metal ("Death on Two Legs," "Sweet Lady"), pop (the lovely, shimmering "You're My Best Friend"), campy British music hall ("Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon," "Seaside Rendezvous", "Good Company"), and mystical prog rock ("'39," "The Prophet's Song"), eventually bringing it all together on the pseudo-operatic "Bohemian Rhapsody."
No one in the band takes anything too seriously, otherwise the arrangements wouldn't be as ludicrously exaggerated as they are. But the appeal — and the influence — of A Night at the Opera is in its detailed, meticulous productions.
It's prog rock with a sense of humour as well as dynamics, and Queen never bettered their approach anywhere else

LABELS: NEAR MINT
A clean, unmarked set of labels with little signs of use.
Label 1 has been pressed off-centre with a tear around the spindle hole.
Nothing too detrimental (please see photos)
VINYL Visual: MINT / NEAR MINT
Both sides shine like new.
Side 2 has one tiny pin-point white pressing spot which gives rise to 4 clicks as it is passed over.
This would have been present from new
VINYL Audio: MINT / NEAR MINT
Plays like new throughout with nothing to fault the crisp, clean and sharp sound apart from the aforementioned 4 clicks on Side 2
SLEEVE: MINT
A stunning example which is as crisp, clean, sharp and fresh as the day it was made
INNER SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
Again like-new with just a little record pressure on the bottom edge but the record has not split through
