Description

In 1976, Queen were "under pressure" to follow up their successful 1975 album 'A Night At The Opera'. So what did they do? Name this one 'A Day At The Races', another Marx Brothers movie title! In the eyes of many, this album flopped. In reality, it sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide, and that's actual 'hold in your hands' physical records, CDs, or 8-track and cassette tapes. If you add digital and streaming copies, it jumps to over FIVE MILLION copies sold worldwide! Not too shabby, right?

Though not as successful as its predecessor, 'A Day At The Races' has several great songs on it. One such track is, of course, "Somebody To Love". Like a gospel song, but with no choir. Instead, they multi-tracked the voices of Freddie, Roger, and Brian (but not John Deacon), and made them sound like a 100 person choir! Another great track is the hard rocking and heavy "Tie Your Mother Down". "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy" and the moving ballad "Teo Torriatte" are also awesome tracks. "Teo" was only released as a single in Japan (and features Freddie singing a few lines in Japanese)!

We look back at this classic Queen album from 1976 with an extremely hard to find and very scarce 12" picture disc LP! It's great, and has the logo artwork from the cover of the original album (which differs a bit from the logo on 'A Night At The Opera' album). The B side is from the original album, and is song titles and credits. Pic disc is a thick and heavy 180 gram vinyl. There's a few light surface marks on both sides, but nothing too bad. No deep scratches, gouges, or scuffs. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. Spanish writing on it, and claims to be made by a Mexican record company. In reality, probably made in the UK. A really sweet Queen collectible to have, wherever it comes from!

I'll even add a bonus! In 2011, Eagle Rock Entertainment, the company that makes the awesome 'Making Of' discs, released a special about Queen titled 'Days of Our Lives'. This is the Blu-ray edition. They even add over NINETY minutes of bonus material, for a total of 220 minutes long! Disc looks new, and is shiny and clean. Case looks new, also. I've watched this at least a couple of times, and it's both informative AND entertaining. If you're a Queen fan (and why would you be here if you weren't? Lol), you will really enjoy this!

Snatch up this rare Queen picture disc, with the added Blu-ray of 'Days of Our Lives' while you still can. These collectibles tend to go quick, so make your move soon!

(RIP Freddie Mercury. One of the best singers and performers in rock and roll history. Never boring, and always fascinating. Thanks for the legacy of great Queen music. You are missed!)
