Note About Shipping To The U.S.
We are located in Canada, but have registered ourselves on eBay.com instead of eBay.ca because it gives us significantly better global exposure. The problem with this is that eBay wants us to charge shipping appropriate to US, where media mail and other options make for fairly reasonable delivery costs. We tried it for a while but ended up losing money on shipping or having to cancel the orders because we couldn't afford to ship for those rates. To manage this we have set the US shipping to run a calculator based on an American location (we chose Plattsburgh as fairly close) and charging according to UPS pricing. This avoids the cancellation issue, but can appear to the buyer to be a prohibitive shipping cost and misrepresents the shipping as being only expedited. If you give us your postal code we will see if we can offer a more reasonable option, but generally we can get a single LP by air to most places in the continental US for $11, a double $16, a few bucks less for ground. If you pay for the item and the shipping was less than you paid we will refund you the difference

CBC Northern Services WRC1-3620  LP 33RPM 12" 1984 (Canada)

This is one of a series of 6 LPs, a descendant of a series of 5" LPs produced in the 1970s for distribution in the North. Lacking a distributor who would seek a commercial market, the 5" discs were generally hard to obtain without either travelling to Arctic or Sub-Arctic communities or frequenting the offices of the CBC. The next stage was the production of a commercial series of folk and country-style LPs of singer/guitarists such as Morley Loon and Willy Thrasher. It seemed that the broad stylistic range represented on the 5" discs was initially not deemed commercially viable. The new series was much more diversified and representative of Quebec's native music cultures. The material is mostly new and some artists reproduced songs from the small discs. Of the nine groups of native peoples resident in the province of Quebec, the series presents four: the Montagnais (3 discs), Huron (1 disc), Inuit (1 disc), and Abenaki (1 disc). The material varies from contemporary "chansons" in the respective language of the singers to "traditional" material some of which can be more appropriately described by concepts other than "music" (e.g. "games", "hunting tools").

The documentation is as diverse as the musical style. While some producers (e.g. Beaudry and Vincent) reflect a strong academic background and endeavoured to produce a careful and "representative" ethnographic document, others made decisions on different bases. Liner notes vary from none to a trilingual booklet complete with transcriptions (Beaudry's Inuit record). Clearly the CBC has opted to refrain from central control and to leave decision-making in the hands of those closest to the performers. A wise decision in spite of the frustrations of inadequate documentation in the case of several recordings. Where liner notes are provided, they are generally trilingual: in the relevant native language as well as in French and English.

Each of the attractive record jackets combines the CBC logo with a photographic reproduction. The Montagnais albums present work by the well-known Innu photographer, Serge Jauvin.

Puamuna:  The singers/drummers on this record present a wide range of individual and regional teueikan styles used along the North shore of the Saint Lawrence River.. (The related but distinguishable drum songs of other Naskapi/Montagnais communities such as Pointe Bleue, Schefferville, Sheshashit, or Davis Inlet are not yet represented in the CBC series). Natashquan has the largest number of singers (6) and songs (8), probably because of the collaboration of Sylvie Vincent who worked extensively in this community and who prepared the documentation. 

LP is NEAR MINT in a plastic inner sleeve in a hard card picture sleeve in EXCELLENT condition.
