Description
On offer here is an EMIDISC acetate featuring 2 tracks by a band called THE LIGHT. The tracks are 'Fred The Mouse (instrumental)' and 'I Just Wanna Live My Life'.
I can find no mention of this band in any guidebooks or on the internet. On both sides of the label (see the 2 scans), the full band members names are listed as:
John Cann (later aka Johnny Du Cann)
Mick Hawksworth
Roger Montgomery
James Rhymer
John Cann and Mick Hawksworth were in various psych and prog bands in the late 1960s and early 1970s including ANDROMEDA, FUZZY DUCK, ATTACK and ATOMIC ROOSTER. I can find no information on the other 2 musicians.
The song 'I just wanna live my life' actually appears on a couple of Andromeda compilation CDs but I can find no trace of 'Fred the mouse' in association with any of Mick Hawksworth's bands.
Both songs are in a heavy psych/prog style reminiscent of other garage psych bands from the late 60s. 'I just wanna live my life' was written by Hawksworth and 'Fred The Mouse' by Hawksworth and Du Cann.
My best guess is that THE LIGHT may have been an early version of Andromeda, or perhaps an interim band. The acetate is not dated unfortunately.
The record is quite marked on both surfaces and you can hear significant crackle throughout. However there are no really deep scratches and the record plays without jumping. Although the condition is not perfect, this may be one of only a few copies or may even be unique.
There is a small reserve on this (£50) which reflects an offer already made by a private collector.
I have made some recordings of the 2 songs which I am happy to mail to serious bidders in MP3 format. If you are willing to bid the reserve amount or higher I would recommend that you listen to these files as this will give you an idea of the audio quality.
