Three Black Feathers Records are proud to present the definitive collectors’ edition of Prodigal Son by Martin Simpson, named the BBC’s Folk Album of the Year at the 2008 awards.

Prodigal Son is an accomplished work by a virtuoso artist, combining interpretations of classic folk and blues tunes with some mesmerising songs of Simpson's own. Featuring guest contributions from Jackson Browne, Kate Rusby and Danny Thompson, the album offers a mature, measured reflection on life’s highs and lows by a man deeply affected by his own recent experiences. Rich and warm in tone and texture, like a fine malt whisky or the dark panelled wood that adorns the album cover, we consider it to be a modern masterpiece.

The album has been remastered by Steve Rooke at Abbey Road, and pressed on high-quality 180 gram vinyl over two LPs for the ultimate in audiophile quality. 

It contains a new interview with Simpson, as well as photo outtakes from the Prodigal Son sessions and an extensive critical appraisal by Colin Irwin, Mojo magazine’s folk correspondent and one of the UK’s leading authorities on the genre. 

Pressed in a strictly limited edition run of 1,000 copies, the album’s artwork and liner notes have been replicated within an elegant gatefold sleeve – a modest reason for joy and celebration in a post-download world!
