Description

Title: The Black Album
Artist: Prince
Year: 1988
Label: Black Discs
Condition : EX+

Record is in Excellent condition almost mint.
Sleeve also in excellent condition.

Very rare unreleased album by Prince.  Sometimes known as "The Funk Bible" or simply "The Black Album" this album was originally going to be the release that followed up "Sign O'The Times", but was pulled at the last minute and replaced with Lovesexy (a far more poppy release).

Really interesting, quite raw/heavy funk style which was quite out of kilter with his other work from that period.  A must have for any Prince fan.

Plain black cover with no markings except the orange sticker listing tracks.  The record itself is one continuous groove on both sides (no track gaps) and the labels are obviously either a Prince joke or are deliberately misleading to protect the actual track names from public knowledge before official release.

There are various different bootlegs of this album available and even a limited edition official release which came out much later in the 90s but what you're bidding on here is a genuine promo original from the intended release period in 1988.  My girlfriend at the time was working in a record shop and was given this as a promo.  The Girlfriend and sadly the record shop are now both gone but I've held on to this ever since.

Hard to find especially in this great condition. Hope it goes to a good home.

Happy bidding.

Grading Guide from Record Collector Magazine:

MINT (M): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
