Description
This is a listing for a vinyl copy of the triple disc Prince bootleg box set "Royal Jewels: A Collection of His Royal Majesty's Finest Studio Sessions." If you are interested in hearing some of the best Vault studio demo material on vinyl, this is THE box set to get. I've collected hundreds of Prince bootlegs but without making that kind of investment, this collection is really the most comprehensive way to cover so many of the best sessions in circulation. The first side starts with the vocal reference demos Prince recorded for the Family and ends with Prince and the Revolution vocal reference demo for Andre Cymone's "The Dance Electric." Side 2 covers a wide range of Prince studio demo recordings intended for his own albums, first, with an alternate version of Around the World in a Day, then an untitled full band instrumental jam, then two key Camille recordings (not available on vinyl anywhere else I've found, with the version of Let Me Feel U Up that was released as the Partyman b-side being different in both length and structure near the coda and ending and Souly-A-Colia being a mislabled title for the one truly lost--and honestly one of Prince's best--Camille track, Rebirth of the Flesh), and another mislabled track, Export Lover from the unreleased Crystal Ball project. Record two focuses more on Purple Rain era demos including the demo of G-Spot that was initially intended for the second Vanity 6 album and is followed by 6 demo recordings for the Purple Rain album and rounded out by another track from the Crystal Ball project. The third record is actually the same record as another great prince bootleg "Chocolate Box," which is comprised of demos from the Sign "O" the Times sessions, including some of my personal favorites "All Day All Night", "Movie Star" and the original pre-Graffiti Bridge versions of "I Can't Stop (this Feeling I've Got)" and "We Can Funk." If you were to only buy one collection of Prince bootlegs for yourself or another vinyl collector, this title really does get my absolute highest recommendation. This copies box is in VG+ condition with two split corners on the top box and some light shelf wear which can be faintly seen primarily on the back of the box (see pictures). The vinyl is all in EX shape with only a few barely visible surface marks.
