Original UK black & silver Columbia/EMI label stereo 1st press LP,
S.F. Sorrow is the fourth album by the Pretty Things and was released in November 1968, it is one of the first rock Concept Albums. Based on a short story by singer Phil May, the album is structured as a song cycle, telling the story of the main character, Sebastian F. Sorrow, from birth through love, war, tragedy, madness, and the disillusionment of old age. Although it is a Rock Opera it has been stated by members of The Who that the record had no major influence on Tommy (1969). The Pretty Things, however, have suggested otherwise, as have some critics. This pressing has the 2nd black & silver label variants, with the 'Sold in the UK....' label text and the earliest -1 -1 matrices and 1-M 1-P stampers of the mid-1969 first issues.
  The Ernest J. Day front laminated sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner wear, a couple of small laminate creases and some laminate rubbing on the front cover, with some foxing and discolouration on the inner cover. The spine is intact and fully readable, the red/brown EMI company inner is intact & in VG+ condition.
  The record is in visually EX condition, with no scratches or nasty marks & only a few faint sleeve removal hairlines and one or two small needle scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of one or two light spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, with some brief low background noise during the run in grooves and in a couple of the quieter passages and overall a really great, loud & clear listen!   The matrix nos. are; YAX-3738-1 stamper 1-M, YAX-3729-1 stamper 1-P. This is one of early 1969 copies of the first pressing of the original UK stereo issue of this classic 1968 album!
