Description

Ella Mae Morse - "It's Better to Give than Receive" (Max and Carol Rubinchik) - Unreleased 10" 78 rpm white label private pressing, ca. 1948

A true rarity in E/Ex condition. Ella Mae Morse (1924-1999) was, of course, the Texas-born popular vocalist of the '40s and '50s ("Cow Cow Boogie," "Shoo-Shoo Baby," "Blacksmith Blues," "House of Blue Lights," etc.) who recorded in a wide variety of styles/genres (jazz, blues, country). We recently purchased a collection of '78s and from it emerged a few private recordings by the (husband & wife?) songwriting duo of Max (music) and Carol (lyrics) Rubinchik which date from late 1940s sessions at The Sound Recorders, Inc. and Radio Central Studios of San Francisco. And from these emerged this Ella Mae Morse recording which, so far as our research can determine, never went further than the test pressing stage. We've graded the single E/Ex: bright and glossy, light paper scuff, a few hairlines, nothing serious; should play with minimal noise and/or intereference. That's a visual grade: our lack of a 78 player precludes us from providing an aural grade (as it does from offering any indication of the single's style/genre). The "B" side is also a Rubinchik composition, the much shorter "I Love You Too Much", but it is worth noting that Ms. Morse is not credited here, so no assurance that she was involved. The record is housed in a plain paper sleeve and will be very well packed before shipping.
