PINK FLOYD Meddle UK LP
A3/B1,1971 UK first pressing 6-track vinyl LP with Gramophone Co label perimeter housed in a fully textured gatefold picture sleeve
Due to this album being one of my top 5 Pink Floyd albums of all time- and after purchasing a few dodgy copies of this album from eBay over the years which were more than over-graded, I am going to give a track by track breakdown so the buyer knows exactly what they are purchasing.
SIDE 1
One of these days-Slight crackles in the background during the quiet intro but then plays excellent when the band kicks in. Cannot help but play this loud; there is no distortion.Rating:E++
A Pillow of Winds-There is no crackle in-between the tracks. David’s steel guitar is clean, crisp and Waters bass plays thick and full. Rating: Near Mint
Fearless- Again no crackle between tracks but there is one moment of brief crackle for a few seconds. Rating: Near Mint
San Tropez- Sounds utterly wonderful without any imperfections. Rating: Mint.
Seamus- Some crackle in the quiet parts i.e. the dogs barking. But bar this David’s steel guitar sounds lovely and crisp. Rating E++
SIDE 2
Echoes- Due to this track being so popular I am going to give a breakdown of the whole song.
Intro- sadly, some distortion on the ping which lasts for around the first minute until the ping fades out. There is also some background crackle until Roger’s bass comes in nice and thick. Nick’s drums at the 1 minute mark sound utterly beautiful.
2-5 mins- David’s vocals are lovely and crisps and clean, leading into David’s solo.
5-7 mins- There is great separation of the instruments to be heard, during Roger’s bass groove.
10-15 mins- In the Ethereal part there is some light crackle throughout and 1 small pop.
15 min- when the pings come in for a second time there is some light crackle, not very distraction, until Roger’s bass comes back in.
18-21 mins- David’s guitar is clean and crisp, in fact stunning- PLAY IT LOUD- as we moving into the outro which is excellent with no background crackle, except just before the track fades.
I rate Side 2: E++.Hence the price (my 1st pressing mint copy cost me a hefty price).
Textured sleeve is a little worn and the lettering on the spine is completely gone. The inside is nice and clean with a few grubby marks. All the labels are mint. Rating:Excellent.
Overall I would rate this album: VG+/Excellent
