************************************************************************

A magnificent 2nd Aussie ‘Stereo’ pressing of Pink Floyd’s classic 1973 album Dark Side Of The Moon on the yellow Harvest label and decidedly more difficult to find than the Quadraphonic issues. The front (non-laminated) cover actually has a ‘real sticker’ similar to those permanently printed on most copies one sees.

When Dark Side first appeared in 1973 it literally stood the music world on its head ….even though Meddle had paved the way experimentation-wise nothing had come close to (or anything since really) this conceptual masterpiece which even today still ranks as the numero-uno album during the history of rock music in most critics & public polls alike.

Statistically this album spent 741 consecutive weeks (14 years) on the USA-based Billboard 200 album chart, the longest duration of any album in history .It also holds the record of spending the highest amount of time on the Billboard charts, staying there for more than 1,500 weeks (almost 29 years).

Considered to be the group's defining work it is heralded as one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time.

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band. Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance. But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia. It's dense with detail, but leisurely paced, creating its own dark, haunting world. Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.
