Description
For auction is an overall great condition copy of the 1st U.K. press of Pink Floyd’s seminal and iconic album Dark Side of the Moon. It comes complete with both posters and both stickers as well as the original black inner sleeve. It is rare to get complete first issue copies in decent condition.
The original Midnight Blue gatefold sleeve is a conservative VG+. These unlaminated sleeves are notoriously fragile, and usually develop a lot of visible wear. This copy is one of the best I have seen, is fully intact and only has opening edge wear, some ring wear from the record and minor corner wear. It is the original gatefold version which only opens on the right side of the gatefold (as the gatefold is open) for the record and inserts.
Original black inner sleeve is VG. Again, these are notoriously fragile and prone to splits and tears. This copy has some minor wear and a split at the bottom edge, but otherwise intact.
Original posters are close to excellent condition with only minor wear to folding edges.
Both stickers are in excellent condition. These are the #2 variants, ( see final photo with full details of first issue variants for sleeve, labels, stickers etc) with the word ‘Permanent’ on the back of the brown sticker.
The record has the rarer A3/B2 matrices. Most first issues were the A2/B2 variant. The record is visually a VG+. Shiny surface with some minor scuffs and hairlines, but no deep or feelable marks. Original first press solid blue triangle labels are clean with only minor spindle marks. No writing on labels.
Sonically Side 1 rates EX with some crackles in some quiet passages but no clicks sticks, skips or jumps. Side 2 has a few more crackles(mainly in track 2 which is a quiet track anyway) but no other issues and rates as EX-. Generally wonderful clear and vibrant sound.
My overall rating for the record itself - appearance and sound- is therefore EX-.
All in all a great complete copy of this first press classic.
