Original Columbia Records Special DJ promotional edition of Pink Floyd’s “Animals” with the banded record containing the edited songs for radio play. The lyrics for “Pigs” (Three Different Ones) have been changed to "You old hag" instead of "You fucked up old hag." Issued with an orange cue sheet insert. Original promotional solid white single type cover with a large “Pink Floyd Animals Special DJ Copy” light brown ink rubber stamp at the center on the front and “Demonstration Not For Sale” black stamp at the top of the front and back. This promotional issue includes the original single sheet light orange timing insert with a song listing, “This track has been expletive deleted!” text under the “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” track (Even though it’s present and hasn’t been deleted on the record!) and credits at the bottom. Usually, this “Special DJ Copy” comes with only one orange single sheet insert, however, the currently listed copy contains the second never seen before original Columbia Records 9” X 9” containing promotional insert having the bold “Pink Floyd Animals” banner, album’s song titles and cover artwork. Original unique promotional Columbia Records picture labels with a “Demonstration Not For Sale” banner on both sides as well as the 3rd catalog number “XSM160892” which is also not present on the standard commercial labels. The vinyl of this special promotional copy is the only one of all “Pink Floyd Animals” releases to contain the unique very early 1st -1A / -1B matrix numbers. The full matrix numbers of this Columbia Records, Pitman, NJ plant pressing as identified by the machine stamped “P” identifier present in the runout groove on both sides are as follows: Side 1 – P XSM160892-1A; Side 2 – P XSM160893-1B. The album comes with the original Columbia Records white paper inner sleeve. The promotional cover is super clean and in stunning Near Mint condition without having any splits, wear, scuffs, soiling, ring wear, writing or residue, only having some very light age discoloration at the bottom center of the front cover. Please note that a series of light brown spots at the center of the back cover as seen on the photo isn’t age discoloration spots but the ink from another cover’s rubber stamp as at some point after they were manufactured these covers were together in a stack. We grade the vinyl as Strong Very Good Plus. It retains its beautiful factory gloss only having some very light non-feelable surface hairlines and marks as well as light scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition and doesn’t have any splits or tears. The promotional “Demonstration Not For Sale” labels are in Near Mint condition, very clean, without any scuffs or wear, only having a couple of very light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light. The original promotional inserts are in great vintage condition only having some very light signs of use. The vinyl plays great perhaps only having some very light occasional static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
