And the people of Japan will remember this great performer: my father Pierre Fournier who first visited Japan in 1954 and always felt close to his Japanese fans. His sincerity nobility and courage were immortalized in this well-received Tokyo performance. I am delighted with this disc which so beautifully restores my father's sound which combined intensity and beauty. ~ Jean Fonda Fournier About the Artist Pierre Fournier Born in Paris on June 24 1906. His father was a soldier and Governor of Corsica and his mother was a pianist. Under his mother's tutelage he aspired to become a pianist but after polio left him with a disability in his right leg he switched to the cello at the age of nine. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire.
