This is a genuine collector’s item – an original Virgin first pressing of what’s become known as Public Image Ltd’s classic ‘Metal Box’ album. The box is showing some of its well-known tarnishing but that almost testifies to its authenticity – especially after nearly 40 years packed away in a cupboard. Not that it’s scratched or damaged or rusty. It’s perfect but just a little blotchy with age. See the pictures – and what you see is how it is. But what’s inside is as brand spanking new as it was back then. No marks. No scratches. No warping. Just flat, black and shiny. All three numbered 12” vinyl discs are separated by the original paper and the A5-size paper listing of the 12 tracks is a red-print original too. I’ll be honest. After all the raw excitement of the Sex Pistols I never took to Mr Lydon’s new experimental direction. Back in 1979 I listened to one side of these three vinyl LPs – ONCE – and packed it away. Until now. My loss, I know. But it should be owned by a fan who would rather have the real deal than pay a three figure sum for last year’s re-issue. This is one for true music history collectors – and, as it deserves, it will be respectfully packed in bubble wrap and boxed for despatch.
