Description
“Space Oddity is the first single I really wanted to release” – so says the heading on the Philips press release for David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”.
Released by Philips in 1969, cat # BF 1801; this is “Space Oddity” / “Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud” by David Bowie.
This is a stereo demo – the existence of stereo issue copies is unlikely – making this a very important release.
The record has been played a number of times and has a few light marks on the playing surfaces. The record grades a conservative very good.
The record comes with an historic press release on Philips-headed paper that is in fine condition. I have only ever seen one other copy of this demo surface with a press release so this is a very rare item.
The record also comes with a two-sided “Profile” of David Bowie and the creation of “Space Oddity” – again on headed paper. There is some light pitting to this piece of paper but this doesn’t really detract from the artefact.
This is an exceptionally rare record and to find it with both the press release and biography notes is pretty amazing – even for this collection!
All of these 45’s come from the amazing collection of an original Sixties DJ. He started his career in the ballrooms and progressed to radio and record production through the late 60’s and into the 70’s. Theses records are genuine UK originals unless stated and come wherever possible in crisp, original company sleeves. Expect the highest quality!

The record are presented to you in plastic sleeves for protection and are sandwiched between two, thick pieces of cardboard for safe transport.
