Description
We pack items very carefully (check feedback) and do not accept returns due to shipping damages. If you'd like postal insurance, let us know before finalizing payment, and we'll add it to your invoice. Insurance is not available for USPS First Class International, but is available for USPS Priority Mail International (for most countries).
PLEASE NOTE: We have upgraded to brand-new larger shipping boxes for added shipping protection for shellac records, and are now adding a $2 handling fee for domestic shipping, to cover the cost of packaging.
MULTIPLE-LISTINGS BUYERS: Our boxes fit a maximum of five records or two box sets (or similar combination), so we will invoice you once you reach that limit on our "Awaiting Payment" list, even if you still have bids out. Of course, we will figure combined shipping costs.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please be aware we use USPS First Class International shipping only, unless your order exceeds four pounds, in which case we have no other option that to use USPS Priority Mail International.
TWO 12" 33 3/3 RPM RCA VICTOR PROGRAM TRANSCRIPTION DISCS 11636 & 11637
The PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRE, under the direction of LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI, play a "symphonic synthesis" of Richard Wager's TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, "VORSPIEL, LIEBESNACHT, LIEBESTOD."
Leopold Anthony Stokowski (18 April 1882 – 13 September 1977) was a British conductor of partly Polish descent. One of the leading conductors of the early and mid-20th Century, he is perhaps best known for his long association with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He was especially noted for his free-hand conducting style that spurned the traditional baton, and for obtaining a characteristically sumptuous sound from the orchestras he directed.
Visually, these records are excellent, with a few very light scratches but no scuffs. But there's something I can't see (or take a picture of), that for the first few minutes of each side causes a very light, regular swish of surface noise. Otherwise, there is very little surface noise on any side. These are meant to be played with a finer needle than mine, but the sound was excellent -- I heard just a few ticks. Because of the disturbances mentioned above (this is QUIET MUSIC for the most part), I lowered the grade. The collector taped two heavy-duty sleeves together, and they have no splits or tears.
NOTE: I DONT GRADE LABELS -- see pictures for that information. I use the eBay record grading system when listing 78's, which is mostly based on visual observation of the wax, shellac, or vinyl. KEEP IN MIND THAT ALMOST ALL OLD 78's HAVE SURFACE NOISE WHEN PLAYED ON MODERN EQUIPEMENT (except the extremely well-made records). It's only distracting surface noise, as well as ticks, pops, clicks or jumps, that may affect grading.
ALL THE RECORDS I LIST COME FROM ONE COLLECTION, THAT OF JAMES M. KENNEY OF NEW WINDSOR, MARYLAND. HE WAS ONE OF THE EAST COAST'S LARGEST AUDIO AND ELECTRONICS COLLECTORS.
