Notes

Direct Metal Mastering

Music for The Last Temptation Of Christ, a film by Martin Scorsese.

Recorded between February 1988 and March 1989 at Real World Studios, Box, England. Mastered at Precision Lacquer.

"I have put together two albums around the music of The Last Temptation of Christ. This album is my work; the other, Passion Sources, represents a selection of some of the traditional music, sources of inspiration and location recordings. I was excited to be asked to work on the music. When I first discussed the project with Martin Scorsese in 1983 I wanted to find out how he was intending to film this controversial novel. He wanted to present the struggle between the humanity and the divinity of Christ in a powerful and original way, and I was convinced by his commitment to the spiritual content and message. He is an excellent and very musical director and working with him has been a great experience.
After we finished mixing the film there were some unfinished ideas that needed developing and I took some extra time to complete this record. There are several pieces that were not able to be included in the film and I felt that the record should be able to stand as a separate body of work. I chose the working title for the film - Passion.
We recorded some of the finest singers and soloists in the field of world music and we set the score on a backdrop of traditional North African rhythms and sounds. It wwas a wonderful experience working with such different and idiosyncratic musicians. They came from Pakistan, Turkey, India, Ivory Coast, Bahrain, Egypt, New Guinea, Morocco, Senegal and Ghana. For many of them working with this material was something quite new and they were very enthusiastic. The soundtrack is full of the spirit of their performances." Peter Gabriel

The following tracks contain selections from existing recordings of traditional music.
Track A1 - The Doudouks are playing an Armenian melody 'The Wind Subsides', recorded for Ocora Records under the direction of Robert Ataian.
Track A4 - Incorporates a traditional melody from Kurdistan. Kurdish Duduks are from Unesco Collection - A Musical Anthology of the Orient, General Editor Alain Danielou for Musicaphon Records.
Track B1 - Written around a traditional Egyptian rhythm which is performed to fend off evil spirits.
Track B3 - Based on an improvisation by Shankar and Peter Gabriel.
Track B4 - The Ney Flute is playing a traditional Armenian melody.
Track C2 - Based on an improvisation by Mahmoud and Peter Gabriel.

So before you bid, ask any questions you may have. I grade records visually and occasionally by playing the record to check for actual sound quality. I try my best in grading the albums. GRADING M only for sealed records or really in pristine condition. M- no scratches and no spindle marks very little signs of playing or handling. If there’s a cut corner or punch hole the LP can still be M-, but I will mention if it is there Excellent the record shows some signs of having been played, very superficial wear, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. Plays like new but may not look perfect, some scuffs that don’t affect play, etc VG++ Plays essentially clean but may have a few spots with very minor hiss or crackle but still very little signs of playing, very little marks from spindle and minimal signs of handling. Light scratches, maybe some scuffing, the cover may have very minor ring wear or dirt, small writing or a very small seam split in the middle, but not all of those defects at the same time. VG+ handling and wear more visible, slight O-ring starts to show, light splits, spindle marks on label. The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover plays mostly clean with some noise in the quiet areas or between songs. May have a few pops but nothing major. VG definite sings of playing some scratches, deep O-ring, seam splits, corners bent, torn covers etc. The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, Records with this grade I will describe more precisely with all flaws I can detect. As always you can ask for more info. VG- / Fair considerable surface noise, lots of pops and crackle. Cover is ragged, stained and/or defaced G The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partially missing. I do not sale Lps graded less then VG-. FEEDBACKS. Tired of giving feedbacks to feedbacks collectors. Out of all feedbacks given to buyers only 20 % to 25% responded back and give it to me. Do you really want one, give it first and I will respond in 100 %. Thanks For Looking. Posted with eBay Mobi
