ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and quite rare LP from Vox (PL 9220, English pressing, black/silver label, mono, laminated flipback jacket) features Vlado Perlemuter's beautiful readings of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major and Concerto for the Left Hand, both recorded in Paris in 1956 with conductor Jascha Horenstein and the Orchestre de l'Association des Concerts Colonne.
Filling out Side 2 (Concerto for Left Hand) is Perlemuter's magical rendition of Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte, while on Side 1 (Concerto in G Major), Perlemuter provides as an encore the composer's Menuet Antique.
Perlemuter worked with Ravel and his performances carry an authority and insight that remains quite special.
Incidentally, there are superlative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in English only, by Felix Aprahamian.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the laminated flipback jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, as well as some minor creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Visually, there are spindle trails and some mostly non-sounding marks. In termas of sound, Although the surfaces are not CD silent, really the playback remains quite fine, perhaps slightly more surface noise to the G Major Concerto than the Concerto for Left Hand. Those requiring flawless or near-MINT surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
