Description
🎶 Rare 78 RPM Shellac Record – Asch Recordings (New York)
Side A: "Variations in Jazz (Snowy Morning Blues)" – James P. Johnson Side B: "Variations in Jazz (I Never Knew)" – Peck’s Bad Boys Catalog #: 350 (350-3A / 350-3B)
This early jazz 78 features a powerhouse pairing of stride piano legend **James P. Johnson** and the lesser-known but dynamic ensemble **Peck’s Bad Boys**. Both sides are variations on jazz standards, released on the small but historically important **Asch label** — known for folk, jazz, and blues recordings with limited pressings.
🎹 Johnson was the bridge between ragtime and swing, influencing greats like Fats Waller and Thelonious Monk. His performance of “Snowy Morning Blues” is considered a classic example of stride style piano.
🎺 The B-side, by Peck’s Bad Boys, delivers a spirited instrumental take on “I Never Knew” — a favorite among jazz arrangers and improvisers of the era.
💡 Highly collectible due to: – Scarcity of Asch pressings – Jazz history significance – Clean, bold purple label – Original matching set
📀 Condition: Scuffs & scratches. Not play-tested. Sold as-is. See photos for detail.
📦 Will be shipped in a secure 78 mailer with padding and support. Shellac is fragile — will be packed with care.
