Background Information

I am currently in the process of shifting a vast collection of stock which largely derives from a Record Shop which closed its doors in the early 1980s.  The stock spans a period from the early 1960s through to the early 80s with the bulk dating from the 1970s.  There are large quantities of Progressive Rock, R & B and Soul and Modern Classical.  Most of the items have sustained a single play (clearly standard practice to check for flaws upon receipt of new records back-in-the-day) however, some are obviously UNPLAYED.  The bulk of what I’m currently selling comes from this source and I’d guess it will be years before I exhaust it!

UNSOLD SHOP STOCK RARE Original U.K. 1968 Orange Label MONO Elektra pressing of The Butterfield Blues Band ‘In My Own Dream’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Elektra Records EKL 4025).  As you would expect this is a period Polydor pressing featuring a fully laminated sleeve without flip-backs.  In my opinion they are pretty cheap constructions and don’t tend to stand the test of time that well however, this is a pretty stunning example which really doesn’t look nearly 50 years old.  Obviously, these early Elektra orange label pressings are particularly hard to locate and particularly desirable.  I’m not convinced this copy has ever been played.  The vinyl retains a great ‘sheen’ however, it does display the kind of ‘shadow’ marks that you get on a record when it has sat in a paper sleeve for decades (think sealed American vinyl if you know what I mean).  These shadows are only present on one side and unsurprisingly this is the side where there are some creases in the paper inner sleeve (it is such creases that leave these ‘shadows’ on the surface).  There isn’t really anything else to say really.  There is perhaps the odd hairline mark and the label are as immaculate as the day this was pressed.  This copy has clearly never seen heavy play and has questionably ever been played and is an easy EXCELLENT+ grading.  The sleeve repeats the same story as the vinyl and has really, really benefited from having spent it’s entire life stored inside a polythene cover.  The laminate looks like it was applied yesterday.  The two top corners of the sleeve are as sharp as the day the sleeve was pressed but the two bottom corners have sustained light knocks with the knock to the left-hand corner having resulted in a small laminate bubble in this corner.  The colouring of the sleeve is still amazingly vivid and as you can see from the attached images large sections of the sleeve are white and these are bleached white in appearance.  There is no indication of yellowing which is typical for items of such vintage.  With regards to other flaws there are two creases in the laminate of the sleeve near the opening edge on the front which result from the sleeve being gripped between the fingertips whilst the vinyl is removed.  One of these creases is also replicated in the corresponding position on the rear of the sleeve.  I also note two knocks to the spine.  These aren’t particularly obvious but nevertheless they are there.  Lastly, as was customary with Polydor sleeves of this period the spine has been ‘pinched’ and this results in the inevitable laminate bubble forming along the spine.  Bubbling along the spine is evident on both sides of the sleeve.  I’m not sure if I really class this as a flaw because it is an inevitable by-product of the method of sleeve construction.  I know some people get quite excited about such things but I’ve got more important things in my life to worry about.  Like the vinyl the sleeve is an easy EXCELLENT+ grade and really isn’t far off looking as good as new.

Final Remarks

You’ll struggle to locate a superior copy!  This has literally sat in storage for decades.  Please check my other auctions for a further Butterfield Blues Band L.P. on Elektra as well as a large selection of Folk, Funk, Pop, R&B, Rock and Soul in similarly immaculate condition from the same source.  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself. 

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).

Multiple purchases will be subject to consolidated postage costs.  I will contact you at the end of the auction to confirm these costs.

Proof of postage is always obtained and retained.
