Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This lovely LP from Mercury (MG 50029, US pressing, plum/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features conductor Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a truly captivating all-French music program, vividly recorded at Orchestra Hall, Detroit, on 7 December 1953.

The exact contents are as follows:

Maurice Ravel: La Valse

Gabriel Fauré: Pavane Op. 50

César Franck: Psyche, Symphonic Poem

These are masterly performances, richly colorful and characterized, the Detroit players bringing great poetry and panache to these remarkable scores.

There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by producer Harold Lawrence, printed in English only. The beautiful cover art is uncredited, alas.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight fraying to the laminate and mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attracitve – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not perfectly silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. If you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as an excellent collector's copy.
