redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Mercury (SR90107, US pressing, plum/silver label, SR stampers, stereo, punch-hole to jacket) features conductor Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a stirring and resplendent all-Wagner program, sumptuously recorded in the fine acoustics of Cass Technical High School Auditorium, Detroit, on 19 February 1960.
Their exact program was as follows, all works by Richard Wagner:
Götterdämmerung: Dawn and Siegfried's Rhine Journey
Siegfried Idyll
Parsifal: Prelude to Act I
Tristan und Isolde: Prelude to Act III
Paray has the full measure of these pieces, the great architectural spans moulded with unerring mastery, the Detroit players producing richly burnished sound – magnificent!
There are outstanding liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by producer Harold Lawrence, provided in English only. The striking cover photo was taken by Edwin Krainin.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. This is a cut-out copy and there is a hole-punch to the lower-right corner. In addition, there is minor corner wear and a slight bump to the upper-right corner. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the jacket remains perfectly solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
