Paganini's 24 Caprices for solo violin played by Ruggiero Ricci on a nice, clean and very straight Decca SXL first pressing, deep groove label with "Original Recording By" at the 11 o'clock position (see the second photo). Serial number SXL2194, the recording was made in 1960. I have owned this for the past 11 years, having picked it up as part of a collection. The record has some scuffs and spindle marking. It has been careful processed (clean, rinse, air dry) by my Moth machine. Apart from two short patches of obtrusive clicks, the record presents very good sound - the instrumental fireworks appear against a very quiet background. Overall, the record warrants a very strong 'Good' assessment. The sleeve is a thin, laminated and scalloped flipback type. A small chunk is missing from the front (see last photo), and the edges are becoming discolored, although the corners and edge are all still solid.
I'm finishing off the disposal of my personal record collection on eBay. Ready in the pipeline are some great jazz albums, including Mosaic boxes, the remainder of my 90's rock, and a load of classical, including some more Decca SXLs. I pack records carefully: the record is taken out of the outer sleeve, and both are wrapped with two orthogonal wrappings of clingfilm onto a slightly oversized internal stiffener. This whole package then goes into a stiff card record mailer. This method keeps the record from moving in transit, and protects both record and sleeve from damage. My standard postage rates are £3 for UK, £5 for Europe and £7 for everywhere else. These charges just cover the postage, maybe with a little over for packaging materials, but I do my best to ensure that the record arrives in the same condition that it left.
