Description
Purchased used in the 1980's at Radio Doctors in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this has been stored in a plastic album bag since purchasing. This is the Original 1986 Release on Shove. Cover is in nice shape with all four front cover corners having a slight "crush" to them (see pictures). There is a small spot under the "P" on Pussy that the white cover gloss is flat (see listing picture, zoom in). Album access edge on front is slightly and lightly rough (see pictures). The back cover top left corner has a "pinch crease" (see picture). Back top right by spine has a small "pinch crease". Spine is good with lettering close to centered (see pictures) .
White plain paper sleeve has no splits, rips, creases or wrinkling and has a stamp on top front "SHOVE RECORDS 3044 "O" ST NW WASH DC 20007" with a slight "ring mark" on one side (see pictures).
Album vinyl has no "surface scuffs or surface scratching" visible. I have played this EP a few times with a Shure M91ED stylus and cartridge tracking at 1 gram. There are some ultra-slight "pressing imperfections" in a couple of spots but never affected playing. Labels look nice but Side 1 label on bottom left is partially missing along outer edge (see picture).

The band's earliest incarnation consisted of guitarist and vocalist Jon Spencer, guitarist and occasional vocalist Julia Cafritz and drummer John Hammill, though this line-up both changed and expanded in later years. Spencer and Cafritz were both students at Ivy League college Brown when the band formed in 1984. Following the self-released 7" Feel Good About Your Body, they added guitarist Neil Hagerty. The new line-up recorded the EP Groovy Hate Fuck. This EP, like all of their early releases, would be self-released on their own Shove Records label. After the band moved to New York City after graduation from Brown, they further expanded the line-up by taking on then 16-year-old Cristina Martinez as a guitarist. Martinez was not a musician and had simply taken the photograph for the 7". The band also replaced Hammill with former Sonic Youth drummer Bob Bert. Then, on a dare from Sonic Youth, they released a limited-edition cassette cover album of the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St. They followed this up in January 1987 with another self-released mini-set, Pussy Gold 5000. Shortly after this, Martinez left the band and formed Boss Hog with Spencer a few years later.
